Partner at Bishop Koch Lawyers
Sarah Koch was born and raised right here in Medicine Hat. She did not always want to be a lawyer, and she initially studied Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. However, after giving it some thought and having a conversation with her father, she switched her major and started her journey to law school.
Sarah graduated from the University of Calgary in 2008, wrote the Law School Admissions Test, and was accepted into Robson Hall at the University of Manitoba. She graduated from Robson Hall in 2011 and went on to article with a large national law firm in Calgary. A year later, Sarah was admitted to the Alberta Bar.
In 2013, Sarah decided to move home to Medicine Hat to be closer to family. After meeting with Pat Bishop, she knew she had found the firm she wanted to be a permanent part of. Sarah soon joined Bolton Bishop where she practiced as an associate until June 2015, when she became a partner alongside Pat Bishop. In 2023, Pat Bishop retired and Sarah welcomed the challenge of owning the firm on her own.
At Bishop Koch, Sarah is known for providing accessible, responsive legal services. The thought of going to a law office to meet with a lawyer can be intimidating to some, but Sarah regularly receives feedback that she makes her clients feel comfortable and relaxed.
Since practicing in Medicine Hat, she has gained a great deal of experience drafting wills, working with clients to develop succession and estate plans, administering estates, and acting on behalf of purchasers and vendors on share and asset sales. Her experience in Calgary also made her extremely familiar with corporate and commercial law and real estate transactions, which she brings to her agricultural, corporate, and residential clients.
Outside of work, Sarah gives back to the community as much as she can. When she isn’t working or volunteering, you can usually find her out and about with her daughter, at the spin/yoga studio, out for a run, or watching her beloved Blue Jays, Seahawks, or Oilers.
